When is ramadan 2008?

when is ramadan this year? and what can muslims do and not do while doing this eg like not having s*x,brush teeth, look at women.

My parents tell me its Septembre 1st or 2nd. Hopefully it will be, Inshallah. Cant wait-ots my first time!

You cannot guess the exact days of when Ramadan will start, many times a calendar or website will say it's on some day, but ends up being the day before or the day after. In the end, it all depends on the sighting of the crescent the evening before the supposed day, if it is not sighted, they must wait till the next day to look for the crescent again.

Ramadan this year will begin somewhere in between the 31st of August and the 2nd of September and will last for 29-30 days, depending on the moon (should be a crescent that looks like a curved strand of hair). Regardless of which day it starts, Ramadan will be considered to have started the night before the actual day, since in Islam, Maghrib (Sunset) marks the beginning of the next day.

Muslims cannot eat, drink, or have intercourse only while fasting from sunrise to sunset. You are permitted to do all those after you have broken your fast. You can brush your teeth as long as you avoid swallowing any water. You cannot cuss, gossip, fight, etc during Ramadan. Of course, all these things should be carried out through the rest of the year. Ramadan is meant to be a chance for every Muslim to spend most of their time worshiping God and asking for forgiveness. The doors of heaven and open and the doors of h**l are closed. Ramadan teaches us patience, mercy, and allows us to feel what the poor and the needy feel. During Ramadan we give charity and do all the things we can to help people out. So anything that defeats the purpose of Ramadan should be avoided. Long and personal conversations with the opposite s*x (who are not related to you), smoking (forbidden at all times and breaks the fast), cursing, cussing, and backbiting are all things that must be avoided at all times.

Things you can't do during Ramadan from sunrise to sunset:

1)Eat

2)Drink

3Fast on your period or if your bleeding after childbirth for 40 days(if your a woman)

4)Have s*x(For married people)

5)Gossip

6)Curse

7)Backbite other people

8)Pray if your a woman and on your period or bleeding for 40 days after childbirth.

You can look at women, just not in a lustful way.

10)Don't eat in front of people who are fasting(it's considered rude).
