BMW and hybrid don't go in the same sentence. As far as I know, BMW does not plan on building a hybrid. They focus on more important things, like making the best of their already fuel-efficent engines. Are you really a BMW fan? Because I thought prius drivers and BMW drivers were from two seperate planets. haha Just kidding, anyway, a hybrid would ruin BMW. Think of how big of a sellout they would be if they abandoned their sporty heritage and began building slow, ugly, half electric p.o.s. cars. You don't need a hybrid to get good gas mileage. The 520d has a 2.0 liter diesel engine and regenerative braking, and in a road test of mixed urban and rural driving it got a little better mileage then the prius. So take that, all you pus*y liberal tree-hugger idiots. haha I wasn't talking about you, but all the morons who bought priuses. Good for the environment? haha do your research, guys, and look how much pollution is produced in the making of a prius. Sorry for the rant. Stick to BMW, since theyre the smart ones they will figure out how to make fuel efficent cars that are still cars, not shoes. (haha another reference to the prius, looks like a shoe haha)

  2. BMW is not doing the hybrid ordeal, many don't understand why but it is very simple.  They are not into creating just a band-aid in this time of gas crisis.  That is all a hybrid is, a band-aid.  The need to steer away from petrol fuel is needed, not to make it last longer.  Instead in the 1960's BMW started to play with hydrogen engines and in 2001 put the 740hl on tour.  They pro duess only steam at the exhaust and have the same if not more power as the regular petrol fuels.  Its a very impressive engine and I am excited to see that GM has followed to go with a hydrogen engine as well.  Arnold was the first of course to own the first hydrogen powered Hummer.  There is a hydrogen stations through out california  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_...  and european areas as well.  Many fear hydrogen as the think of the "H" bomb but its nothing like that.  Hydrogen is more safe than Gasoline actually.  We need to push for it as its not a band-aid but a replacement.  Some places offer it free of charge even!

  3. The above poster is correct - BMW has decided that the weight of the hybrid car battery would negate any fuel economy gains and instead is going to join the charge behind new diesel technology. BMW North America will soon release a 3-series powered by a twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder diesel that is already on sale in Europe, and will soon be using regenerative braking and an alternator clutch to increase fuel economy - Europe will get this technology first, and I would assume it will come to the US shortly thereafter.

It seems that traditional hybrid technology is largely being passed over by the European brands, who have been using diesel for so long that they would rather flex their muscles with something that they know rather than explore unknown territory that has heretofore been dominated by the Japanese.

    Best of luck!

  4. bmw is not investing in hybrid i heard instead they are investing in the HYDROGEN engine which they would be the first ones to create it... because then BMW would have already had hybrid before anyone else because it is engineered to perfection...

  5. I don't know of any plans to come out with a hybrid in a 3 series but they do plan to relase one in the X6.  They are also looking into the hydrogen powered vehicles and already have a limited number if those on the road.  BMW helped to develope the technolagy that GM has recently released in their new hybrid SUV, and will be using the same technolagy in their hybrids. They plan to increse the fuel econamy of the big engins first to bring their bottom line up faster due to the new CAFE standards.
