  1. july 31

  2. The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st.

  3. The non-waiver trade deadline is 31-July, 4:00 pm Eastern. Prior to then, teams may trade players freely and other teams cannot interfere.

After that deadline, players must clear waivers before being freely tradable. The waiver clearance process takes, IIRC, 72 hours -- during that time other teams, in reverse order of record (in general; there are some other, smaller details, like leagues), can claim a player. If claimed, either a deal must be made (with the player going to the claiming team) or the player must be withdrawn from waivers (and having not cleared, cannot be traded). Most players are put on waivers as a routine matter but some do get withdrawn. Players who are traded (claimed or cleared) before 31-August and report to their new team within 24 hours are eligible for postseason play.

Players can be traded after 31-August but will not be eligible to play in the postseason should their new team make it that far.

  4. 7/31/08

  5. July 31st, after that a trade can be made but the players have to clear waivers.
