Travelers who've caught the genealogy bug may want to make plans for a trip to Independence, Mo. The $8 million Midwest Genealogy Center opened last week and houses microfilm and microfiche with Civil War histories, American Indian records, black family history records, passenger lists, plantation records and more.

however, says the grand opening is June 21, 2008. You might want to go before that, if they will let you in,  to avoid the hoopla and get started digging for dead ancestors.
