Question:

When is the Post and Crown preformed, with the root canal or the crowning?

Ok have a few questions. I had a root canal performed last year with just a temp filling because I was getting a Cerec crown put in but needed to wait for the money. I’ve already been told a number of inaccuracies by this office so I need to start asking for second advice and input.

What exactly is a post and core?

Would the post and core have been preformed with the root canal and temp filling or crown last year, or now with the permanent crown?

  1. I always wait at least a couple of weeks after completion of the root canal before I place a p&c.  P&C is placed to allow the crown more structure to be supported.  It is important to have one if the decay has destroyed quite a bit of the tooth.  The reason I wait is to make sure that the root canal is going to take.  If retreatment is necessary,  a p&c would make it more difficult.  I also tell patients not to wait too long to get a crown or the tooth may break, and they could loose the tooth. I tell them not to go over about 6 months.  Hope this answers your question.
