When is the best month to visit Ireland/Scotland/UK?

My husband and I plan to visit these 3 places in October, but I found out that it is wet and dark and cold. Is it a bad idea to visit in October?

It can be very wet and cold, and days are getting shorter in october. The best time is May to July. Still, we're having a horrible summer in Ireland this year, and I've been to Scotland in November once and the weather was fantastic! It's so unpredictable up here that any time of the year is at risk! The thing to keep in mind is that during the summer the sunrise is very early and the sunset very late, whereas in winter there are very few hours of light.

Its not dark in October but it is still wet and cold....

The best time to visit would be July-September because the weather is better it still rains a bit but thats Ireland for you..... Also the atmosphere is betten from july-sept because it is summer and most people are on there summer holidays and evereybody is happy and welcoming however in october its back to work and the days are getting shorther.......

I went to Ireland and the UK in May..it rained everyday. Not so much UK but yes in Ireland. It really is not bad. It does it for a minute then stops. Hot one minute..cold the next...just take long sleeves/ short sleeves/ sweatshirts/ and a wind breaker. Umbrella in case it gets to be too much. Was still great! We went to Dublin..just south of Dublin there is a National park called Glendalough...go there go there go there!! It was AWESOME!! Worked out well, we had great weather that day! My guess is any national park would be great in Ireland..but omg I couldn't believe it!!!

October isn't a bad month to visit, however if you don't like the wet or cold, maybe the UK & Ireland isn't for you...its Summer here now and the weather is rotten. It was also terrible last Summer, so don't hold out much hope weather wise.

Apart from that, its a great place to visit. A lot of history and friendly locals...Scotland and Ireland (NI & RoI) in particular.

Hi there.

I am from Italy and I have visited Ireland 4 times, each time in a different period of the year. I've been there once in Spring, once in Autumn and twice during Summer, in different years.

I've been there in October and November too.

Ireland is a beautiful country all the year round, believe me and it is really worth to visit. The landscape changes according to the season, so every season is worth visiting.

As for rain... it often rains there, just hope to be lucky when you get there... you can't do anything about it....

Ireland is so green thanx to the rain...
