A friend and I are planning a two to two and a half week vacation to Germany to take place in 2008 - what would the best time to go be? We are looking for good weather - not too hot, but not cold as well as the best time for the most deals - off season, really.

  1. I would say April-May or Sept.-Oct. is your best bet. Weather is pretty pleasant during that time..........usually. But now with the global warming everywhere, the weather over there is not predictable anymore either. Have fun !!!!

  2. The best time is just before and just after kids get out of school for the summer.

Families travel when kids are on summer vacation, so this is the most expensive and most crowded season.

This year, we were in Germany late May/early June, and it was great -- wildflowers all over, and not too crowded.  Another year we did late September, and that was great, too.

If you are really anxious to avoid rain, mid-September to mid-October is probably best.

  3. in the summer around june, july, august in the winter its to cold and the days are a lot shorter and go with the condor airline it is not as big as lufthansa so it is cheaper bt it still flies to germany and as frankfurt as its hub

  4. Well, being german, I can tell you that weather is absolutely not predictable here.

This year, our summer was in april, and in july we had a depressing autumn.

Weather changes usually from Scandinavia to Sahara and back, from one day to the other. Differences of 10 or more degrees within 2 days are not really a rarity I guess.

Usually I would suggest you April/May or September.

But then you can get 2 weeks of rain and coldness anyway - or 2 weeks of Sahara ;)

Whenever you go, prepare to take summer *and* autumn clothes with you. We had a december day with 18° before, and we had a july day with 15° before. At least as far as I remember ;)

  5. My favorite time of year to visit Germany is October - if possible just AFTER Oktoberfest.  Weather is great - take a jacket, but rain is low, the air is warm enough -it is not too dark yet.  By November it is rainier and cold - but Oktober is great.

I've been in Germany in April, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.  Of these months, October (Goldene Oktober) is my favorite.  Of course I have yet to experience May in Germany. :-)
