When is the best time to apply for EMA ?

Daughter is 16 today but still in year 11 as she is one of the older children , does she qualify for this grant as technically she is in education .

  2. My son was 16 last January, but he couldn't apply for EMA until he'd legally left school...at the end of the summer term. Your daughter won't be eligible until she has also "left school" at the end of the summer term 2009.

  3. No she doesn't because to qualify, your daughter has to have left school and have applied for a full time course in college or as they say - further education. And also after leaving school the parent(s) household income must be under £30,000 or else she wouldn't be able to receive the grant.

    Although this year isn't the right time to apply, the best time for her to apply for EMA is next year in the academic year 2009/10 when she would leave school, to have applied a full time college course or at school (after done her GCSEs)
