I am an IT Technician for a company. I provide computer services for the company customers on different places; hardaware and software for laptop and desktop computers, and some networking stuff like troubleshooting LANs/Wireless Networks.

My Boss hired me 2 months ago and my starting pay is $9.00/hr and I think I deserve more than that because I have a Bachelor's Degree, I'm a Microsoft Certified, CCNA, and I have 1 year experience on the field.

SO IS IT OK TO ASK FOR A RAISE? WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO ASK??

  1. Time to get a new job my friend, I am less qualified then that doing sys administration making 60k

  2. I wouldn't say two months in is a good time. Why start on that wage if you think you should get more?

You should have negotiated a better wage before taking the job.

I would wait 6 months to a year now, work hard and show him you're woth the extra money.

  3. Wow dude, lots of variables there to consider.

It really depends on the job market in your area and the cost of living.

If the job market is hot, there are lots of jobs to be had, then that jacks up your value level.  If there are hardly any jobs to be had, then you're not going to want to have to find another job, so your value is reduced.

I would suggest you briefly research comparable salaries in your area for the same job with the same education level, see what your counter-parts make.  If they are making more than you, then you're going to want to approach the boss, give him your research results and tell him you need a raise on par with what your skills are.

If it's only been two months then you might want to wait until 3 months, that's a normal probationary period and most businesses will automatically give you a raise at that point once they are familiar with your work ethic.  If, however, you've been s******g up in the 2 months that you've been there, then you're going to want to hold off until you can prove your value to the company over a short period of time.

    Hope this helps, good luck.
