  1. It really depends on what your interests are and why you are making the trip.

The scenery is excellent (but different) all year round.

Here is a generalisation of the meteorological conditions:

In the South Island May will be cooler with almost nightly frosts, but with little wind or rain.

In September you are likely to encounter rain and wind.

In the North Island there will be rain in May too, but the really cold and stormy weather doesn't usually start till the end of June; not much wind in September.

  2. Definatly September. Sept is the start of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere, so the weather is on the improve, but you can still go skiing if you want. May is probably the worst time to come "down under." The weather is going to pot because May is the end of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, but the ski season usually doesn't get under way untill mid June at the earliest, so there's not a heck of a lot that you could realy do in May. To cold for the beach, not cold enough to ski.

  3. it makes know different when you go to nz,its always beautiful, ski Field's in winter and lovely beaches in summer, and don,t forget the people are always  friendly and warm, when its cold you put more cloths on, wet you use rain coat,It,s what you want to make of it,New Zealand

  4. they are the two worst times to visit nz. its not warm enough to take advantage of the place and its not cold enough to ski etc

  5. i agree Sept is better.

  6. May is cooler in Sydney, But Septemer aint that bad at all really, actually it can be pretty nice- but that depends on where in Aussie your coming to as I'm based in Sydney.

NZ is just messed up weather haha thats where i grew up.  I would vouch for September over May though, as it can be freeeeezing around that time.

So all in all.. I reckon September

  7. In May the weather is cooler.  September is getting warmer because Australia summer is in  December

  8. I live in Queensland and either of those dates would be fine. Up here the weather is beautiful all year round. Mind you it does get VERY warm in January and February. I have been to Sydney in September and it was quite nice. Melbourne in September on the other hand was icy cold when I visited but apparently its weather can be all over the place. However Australia is great at all times.

I visited the North Island of New Zealand between April and July and loved it. Very temperate climate but still snow on some of the mountains. Mind you north or Auckland where I was mainly I didn't have to get into jeans or jackets too often.

I have just had friends do a trip to the south Island of NZ this September and they were really rugged up (ski jackets and warm clothes.) That said they loved it but went extremely well prepared.

Overall I think both times are great to visit. It would probably be cheaper in May as it is not in a school holiday period where September is.

Hope that helps. Enjoy our two countries. They are both really great places.

  9. Definitely September.  May in NZ can be cold and wet - depends on the year.  Many parts of Australia won't be too hot at the at time of the year also.

  10. SEPTEMBER!!!! things are more full of life and its warmer and everything is greener and more spectacular,

In may things re colder, duller but theres heaps of leaves...

    Come in September
