I plan on getting divorced, should I wait until the first of next year, or go ahead and get started now? Mostly this is related to finances/taxes etc.

  1. Divorce can be hard so make sure you have a plan. You need to gently tell you kids [if you have any]. check on who's moving out, and you have to understand that this can trauma tise any child or spouse. So make sure your ready to handle this camly and not badly

  2. when the marriage goes down the tubes.

  3. Financialy, i dont think it will matter alot. There is alot more to it than just income  tax. Besides it takes a bit of time. Just so you know, lawyers goal is to grab 10 percent of urs and ur hubbys income. Unless you go incontested. At least that was my experience

  4. Dude, if you have to ask that, you should never have gotten married in the first place.

  5. Depending on where you live is the basis for a divorce. If you want to file single or together. It doesnt matter as long as you spent over 6 months married or divorced. I say if nothing else you should get started. My divorce was started a year ago Febuary 2007 I didnt get in to divorce court til Jan 2 2008 and my divorce was finalized April 1st this year. Its a long process to say the least. If you want the divorce get it rolling now. Otherwise it will always be the same matter with taxes, finances etc. You can always work something out in the divorce agreement to do w/it or talk to your atty.

  6. It is better to get the divorce before she finds out you are g*y.

  7. The sooner the better, why involve more money and wait?

  8. You sound like an idiot.

  9. The sooner is ALWAYS the better.

  10. even if you start it now, it wont be done before next year. filing "married" has a better break, if you two can get along to do it. filing married/separate is one of the worst ways to file.

  11. Depends on your State Laws regarding divorce and how much money you would really save by waiting (vs. remaining in an unhappy marriage).  It is already August, so it is possible that the divorce might not even go through until after the year end (so why wait?)  Than there is the fact that how much money would you be saving filing jointly this year and more importantly, would you even see that money (or would your wife spend it on stupid c**p).

    I say pull the trigger.

  12. well, my parents got divorced, and according to me, there is no best time for divorce. if you really can't live with that person anymore, don't wait, just do it. why suffer longer?
