When is the best time to grow carrots and squash?

  1. You will plant the seeds of either plant in the spring.   Make sure that you give the squash lots of room for spreading.  In the fall you can pull the carrots, and pick the squash.

  4. I don't know where you live but we live in central Indiana. We plant carrots in mid April. You will need to make sure the soil is very tilled because carrots will be crooked if they hit hard soil. We plant squash/zucchini in mid May. Once they reach 6" to 8" long we pick them. They are best tasting at this point and this will also encourage new flowers on the plants.

    Last year we had most of our plants producing for close to three months. You need to find out the frost free date for the zone you live in. Then check out the carrots and squash/zucchini that you want to plant and see on the back of the packet the planting time for your zone. Good Luck.
