When is the best time to plant a crape myrtle?

I feel like I've heard when they are dormant in the fall is best????

What a great plant.  I planted mine in the spring about 3 years ago and it is doing great.  It doesn't need a lot of maintenance and it has doubled in size and has a lot of blooms each year.  Just be aware that the following year and every year after your plant will look dead for quite a while in the spring but don't worry.  It just takes longer to turn green than the rest of the plants.

  4. The best time to plant any shrub is in early spring after the last frost. You don't want a young baby bush to suffer through a winter would ya. Spring is best because the temperatures are not too hot or cold and it allows the plant to grow strong roots before all h**l breaks lose in the weather. (LOL) I have two crape myrtles, and they lived through strong storms and drought, but they were there for 9 years, so they are good and strong! :)
