When is the best time to put children on any medication for hyperactivity / adt - 4 years old or later

my boy of four years old is hyperactive and has been through all the steps to establish a suitable solution to his situation,need alternative help such as educational programs for home training. hope anyone can help, thanking you

  1. An awful lot of kids are pretty active at age 4.  At age 4, I dont think its even possible to make an actual "hyperactive" (ADD or ADHD) diagnosis- at least ethically it isnt.  I wouldnt put him on anything until at least age 5, age 5 is considered something of a benchmark year in terms of development.


  2. I have worked with 3-4 year olds that definately have ADHD---some mild cases may not be formally diagnosed until later--

    it has been my experience that docs don't like to start meds before the age of 5
