is you defentely know you wanna go on vacation, try booking it a year before, that's when the scedule for the plane routes in, and thats the cheapest... i wouldnt really say 2 days before, at least not on long distance like from usa to germany, that comes way more expensive believe me.

There is no such thing as 'best price'. 6 months before travel date is good and 2 days before travel date. In latter case you have more risk.
