  1. Spring is definetly the best period to visit Japan, we've been there this year by the end of April and the cherry blossom was almost finished in Tokyo and Kyoto and there was few tourists around.

You can check here for the blooming time since it differ from an area to another : http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011_when....

btw avoid the "Golden week" wich is the busiest holliday there (april 29, May 6 for 2009)

  2. I've been in Nagano in July, Kyoto/Nara in August, Yokohama in November, and Ishikawa Pref./Tokyo in December and January. August is definitely the hottest time to go. December and January were great but very cold. I thought November was the perfect time to go. It wasn't too cold and there weren't tons of tourists. It also depends on where you go. Obviously the bigger cities will have more people and more tourists.

  3. Spring during end March to first week of April is basically the period of cherryblosoms in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Northen Japan may further delay a bit to end April but it hits the Golden Week holiday season(end-Apr. to first week of May) is too congestive crowd everywhere. You'd better avoid  the G.W. holidays and Mid-August(Bon vacation holidays). June to early July and Sep. to early Oct. may have some rains partly in Japan also not recommendable for foreigne travelers.

Year-end and new-year until early March are not too bad but it is very cold  and may snow to take outdoor touring except Okinawa.

  4. Cherry Blossom season changes with the weather so it is almost impossible to guaranty you will see a lot of them but the season is March - April. There are different kinds of Cherry trees and some blossom earlier than others. Also different regions of Japan bloom earlier.

Spring and Late Fall are the best times to visit Japan. Summer is so hot and Humid and is Typhoon season too in parts of Japan and Winter gets a lot of snow in some regions.

If you go during Cherry Blossoms you will be swarmed by tourists so which is more important less people or Cherry Blossoms that becomes your Choice. Autumn is lovely with the beautiful Momiji (Maple leafs) and it is not so crowded so maybe that would work better for you...

  5. If you & your hubby enjoy nut-numbing cold weather, try Tokyo in February!

  6. During the winter or the summer any time before obon week (mid-august). It really hectic during obon week b/c thats a major holiday.
