  1. No, No, No!  Do not trim back your Rhododendrons in the autumn, unless you wish to significantly diminish next year's flowers!

    They should be trimmed right after they bloom.


  2. Don't trim them back in the fall!!!!!!!!!  They have to be done IMMEDIATELY after they bloom or you'll be taking off next years growth.

  4. as soon as it is finished blooming. they grow fast at this time and it is wise to keep the energy from going into unwanted growth.

SALESCOA is exactly right, although I would have added an extra "NO".  Rhododendrons set their flower buds shortly after they bloom.  If you cut them back in the fall, you will be cutting off next year's flowers before they even have a chance.  The same is true of almost all spring flowering shrubs.  

    Trim Rhodies no later than late May if you want blooms next year.
