  1. I would say May, June and the first two weeks in July, or the last two weeks of September ... at that time the weather OUGHT to be fairly warm but the schools haven't broken up for holidays ... towards the end of July schools start their holidays so it gets packed right through to the beginning of September ... during the rest of the year the weather tends to be colder and rainier ... places aren't usually so packed during the rest of the year (except of course over the Christmas and New Year period)

however we have tourists all year round in London ... if you're thinking of queues then late January and February are probably best but the weather can be miserable then, cold and wet and occasionally snow

  2. I know some would say the winter is cheaper, but I think that's because it's not such a valuable experience.

In summer, having fun and getting about outdoors is easier and better value. After all who wants to see all the monarchy and pageantry displays, the Guard, the River Thames in the pouring rain?

Much better to enjoy picnics in the parks, music, concerts, open air theatre, street performers, free festivals, outdoor markets etc when the weather is sunny! We went in May and that was just right.

  3. Depends what you're looking for. If you mean weather-wise, it's anyone's guess, as you never know from day to day what the weather will be doing. However, the warmest time of year is usually late July, August and the first two weeks of September. However, that's also when the kids are on school holidays and all the tourists are there too, so it will be very crowded.

Spring can be beautiful but it can also be freezing cold and raining or even sleeting/snowing. All in all it's a bit of a lottery!

  4. It's always a bit of a gamble, but I'd say the best bet overall (not just for weather) would be the second and third weeks in September.

Weather's often dry then, the kids are back at school, and the number of tourists is just beginning to drop, though all attractions will still be in summer-season mode.
