When is the best time to visit New York and San Francisco?

San Francisco, while not having snow or anything, is a marvel during the holidays. The Embarcadero and the bridges are adorned in lights and not thatcold (around 60F/15.5 C). It may rain... but days after the rain can be stunningly clear.

christmas time definatly, its AMAZING, especially down market street, its extremely busy, stores and shoppers everywhere and all the decorations, and the weather..

New York in the Winter (Christmas Time ,Gorgeous) and San Francisco in September/October when it warms up into the 70's.....make sure to visit Sausalito

October in both places are beautiful. I agree with Christmas in New York. Sometimes overlooked is Christmas in San Francisco, also very gorgeous and better weather (never snow or brown ice)

I live in SF: best time to visit SF is September or October.  My friend who lives in NY says anytime during the summer months is ok, but it's hot.

In SF anytime is great although summer is more crowded and more expensive in a city that is already too expensive.  I understand that fall and winter (Christmas) are just beautiful in N.Y..
