When is the best time to whistle foxes?

I am unsure of the best time for whistling. Is it better just on dusk, later in the night or early in the morning, just on sunrise?

The fox is a wary creature and moves around more just before sun up and a hour or so before sun set.  If it is hot, their movements are closer to dusk.

Dunno about the US but in Australia, just about daybreak and just on sunset.
