  1. Why not work back from your wedding date to give you a timeline you can base your decision from.  A lot of people say 6-8 weeks but they dont explain why.  I'm going to try and explain the easiest way to work out when you need to mail invitations.

First thing you need to do is look at your paperwork to find out when your venues/caterers etc need you final guest numbers.  There will be something like "guest numbers need to be advised x amount of time prior to your wedding date to allow for staffing and catering to be organised"  This is usually about two weeks prior to your day but it changes depending on providors so check what is appropriate for you.

The people that require the most notice then become your baseline for your RSVP date.

To save you some stress when trying to find out who is coming set your RSVP date two weeks ahead of when your supplier needs the guest numbers.  This gives you about a week to wait for late mail to arrive and then some time to call anyone who has not RSVPd before closing your numbers off at the venue.

Once you have your RSVP date you can work out your postage times.  Mail the invites 4-6 weeks ahead of the RSVP for local guests, 6-8 weeks ahead of the RSVP for interstate guests and 8-12 weeks ahead of the RSVP for international guests.  This gives enough time for the invites to arrive at their destination and for the RSVPs to return on time.

If you are worried about forgetting to mail some of your invites, choose the most appropriate mailing time for the guests furthest away and mail the lot at the same time.  It's better to have the invites arrive early than too late.

  2. If you are getting catering done and trying to decide how much cake to have find out how much advance notice the caterer needs.  But generally speaking I would say 6 weeks in advance should be sufficient, unless their are a lot of out of towners that may need to make arrangements and accomodations.

  3. They are usually sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

  4. The earliest you should send out invites is 8 weeks prior.  Ideally, for a November 1st wedding, I'd send them around the end of the 2nd week/beginning of the 3rd week of September.

  5. Earliest would be now (about 12 weeks)

Latest would be by September 15 (about 6 weeks)

    Congats!

  6. Get this I just got an invite for a wedding on November 8th that is way to early I wanted to throw it away. I think two months before is fine so Sept 1 would be good.

  7. My vow renewal is the same day as your wedding and the invitations went out last Friday. We were hedging our bets because we asked for the RSVP's to be back by September 10th so we could send out another tranche when we received refusals. Everyone has replied already and no refusals!!

Congratulations & have a wonderful day.

  8. 6 to 8 weeks is typical wedding invitation etiquette! :)
