  2. The force of gravity is greatest when the planet is closest to the sun. As the distances between the two objects decrease, the gravitational pull increases and therefore the earth revolves much faster when it is closer to the sun than when it is further away.

Gravity is determine by an objects mass.  The greater the mass the stronger the gravity.  You feel the greatest pull of gravity when you are moving away from mass of the object, such as jet pilots 'pulling g's' as they are in a steep climb maneuver.  As to your specific question, I would think in a elliptical orbit, you will feel a greater pull of the Sun's gravity when leaving the shorter distance into the longer distance of the orbit.
