You can go to this website lhcountdown.com and it shows how many days are left until they turn it on and it will be a few months until it is running at full power.

July 2009. They hope to find the Higgs boson, a particle which will prove all their theories about particles right. if it isnt found, we could be facing a big ooverhaul in how physics is studied

i wouldn't bother counting on any date it'll actually go on... it has been delayed so many times already.
