  1. It depends whether you travel by airplane or by car.  By airplane you must have your passport but by car you still have time.  Check out this website, http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/pass... it gives you the exact dates and what is needed to cross.  The info you need will be in the RECENT U.S. PASSPORT NEWS

section of the website I just gave you.

  2. This has not been decided yet.  It will be some time during summer of 2008.

Right now you need a photo ID and a proof of citizenship.

If you are planning a trip in the spring, you are safe, but if you are planning one in the summer, I would get a passport.

  3. Jan 8th 2008

  4. Assuming you're a US Citizen, the following applies:

Implemented on January 23, 2007, ALL PERSONS traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean region are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

  5. It will be sometime during the summer of 2008.  The government will give at least 60 days advance notice in regards to this matter.

If you fly, you need a passport now.  If you drive or walk into Mexico, you don't need one right now.  Come January 31, 2008, you will need a birth certificate and a drivers license (or some other form of government issued i.d.--this is from the first link).

If you click on the second link, you'll find all kinds of necessary things you need to know about being in Mexico, including Mexico laws.

The fourth link I included just in case you decide to drive into Mexico.

The last link shows where Congress is pushing for that date to be pushed up to June of 2009.  The third link shows where President Bush signed a $555,000,000 spending bill.

Now, it doesn't specify if this is included in the spending bill, however; contacting your senator would be a good idea to see if it has happened.
