  3. The next solar eclipse is the total eclipse on 2008 August 1, visible on a narrow path from the Canadian arctic, through Greenland, central Russia, Mongolia, and ending in China. It will be visible as a partial eclipse in northeastern North America, and much of Europe and Asia.

    The next lunar eclipse is a partial one on 2008 August 16, visible primarily in the Eastern Hemisphere plus eastern South America.

    We usually average two solar and two lunar eclipses a year. Lunar eclipses are usually visible over an entire hemisphere; solar eclipses are limited to a narrow "path of totality."
