I've just painted a dresser with latex paint. When is it safe to expose clothing and possibly a child to it?

  1. Latex paint dries quickly.  Just wait overnight and fine for clothing and child.  I don't know if you primed the dresser but latex paint will chip off easily.  I'd protect it with a clear coat of polyurethane like Benjamin Moore's "Stays clear" product.  If very concerned about child chewing on it, ask Benjamin Moore dealer for green version.

  2. read the directions and then I usually wait an extra day. I have found that keeping freshly painted objects in a well ventilated room and a couple of fans going speeds up the drying process.
