  1. wait I don;t understand ur question

  2. I thought it would have already started, it was approved and they have a finishind date set for 2015.

I have checked the canal's website and even they are behind with any news on the expansion - most odd:

    http://www.pancanal.com/eng/plan/noticia...

    EDIT:

I found a liitle more on the construction but no real date other than this year.

The modernisation of the waterway should be completed by 2014 and should generate around 7,000 direct jobs, as well as indirectly creating 35,000 more.

The government had planned to increase tolls as a means of financing the ambitious and costly ($5.2billion)project. Construction should start in earnest in 2007.

  3. To be honest there hasn't been any news about the expansion yet.

I believe that now the Panama Canal Authority is looking for the financing they will need to cover the expansion, and then they will proceed to ask for the bids in order to begin the actual work.

  4. Actually I think they are still accepting bids since I haven't yet heard if any group has been chosen.  Here's a link to the national newspaper (La Prensa) in English.  It will help you be aware of what's happening http://www.prensa.com/

Beside the canal expansion there is a new mega port going in by the bridge of the American, actually it's a 40 year project to reach its completion.  And there's a new cruise terminal going in also.  So the canal area is really going to be a hopping place soon.

  5. Right now, they are training the people.

For example a Colombian Company came to Panama to train the people of how to drive a truck, i dont know how to say that in english, but is a truck that retires land and move to another, is used for construction.  Well they are training the panamanians for that to start working on that and also they are making all the organization to start that, i think that it will be very soon, because they are now hiring the people.  I guess 6 to 8 more months.

Its totally true what the lady above me said about the 40 years old project.  Thats why most of the panamanians are happy for the new employment opportunities.
