It varies all over the country - I was in Nova Scotia and experienced the same thing... each province and area has it's own seasons. Sorry...not one thing? What were you using??

Usually the best time I find for trout fishing is either early spring, just after Ice-off, or in the middle of fall. The reasons for this is that for spring the trout have just endured a long winter and the trouts metabolism is beginning to increase. The trout will actively feed. The same process is reversed with the fall. The trout are trying to bulk on the pounds for the long winter and are also actively feeding. The reason you fishing trip was non-productive was probably because, since it is summer, the waters temperature is too high for the trout. For summer fishing, try to fish a little deeper as the trout go to these areas to escape the heat. And if possible, try fishing in the evening or early morning.
