When it's summer in the US, is it winter in Australia?

And I'm sorry that this makes me sound totally ignorant.

But it's one of those things that threw me off.

So sorry for sounding so stupid.

At least I don't think Boston is a state anymore :P

What!! Boston isn't a state! Ahhh! one thing i do know though is that Australia does have winter when US has summer. when i first found that out i was wondering how weird it would be to have Christmas in the summer heat!

You are absolutely right.  Summer in the Northern Hemisphere = Winter in the Southern.  

Also, I've seen people on Jeopardy say city names instead of states and vice versa, so we'll forgive you.

Yes thats correct, its winter in New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica, east timor and most of Indonesia, and parts of South America when its summer in USA
