  1. i use live because for some reason worms for small bass work really good for me .

  2. Bill Dance once said there is no imitation for live bait.  At times, he wished he had a live bait sponser.  My favorite largemouth lure is the straight-tail plastic worm.   It's caught and still does it's lion's share of ole' mossback.  Smallmouth ain't Largemouth.  With that in mind, the tube and curly- tail grub have accounted for a lot of smallies.  Especially the smoke and pumpkin colored ones.  Neither one can resist a live minnow under a bobber.  Tight lines and good luck.

  3. i like fake some types a brush hogs are good. but i also like using like minnows are usually good if u set a minnow trapper in the same body of water i usually find it more effective. heck i have caught a huge bass on a little bullfrog.

  4. I have always outfished people using live bait while I am using plastics or artificials I have everything in my box and no one can carry every type of live bait needed. If they are hitting on one thing with artificials I can and do find what it is.

Fishing is presenting a meal to a fish the way the fish wants and needs to see it, presentation is key the preditory nature of the top of the food chain will always strike what looks like a weak (dying) or easy meal. to make the bait wanted. make it look damaged or vulnerable. Especially crankbaits

  5. depends on where u are fishing, the lake that I live on (in florida) the large mouth like the 7.5 culprit ribbon tale worms and preferably on a sunny day  the best color is june bug  but most colors work and they like wild shiners, not the ones you buy at the store   hope this helps!

  6. Both are extremely effective. Live and imitation baits work best in evening, while diving plugs and spinners work best in the afternoon.

The reason this happens is because the bass come in shallow to feed in morning and evening, but go to cooler, deeper water in afternoon, meaning the lure has to come to them. Even if they are not hungry, they will strike on instinct. Surface lures work at the same time as live and imitation bait, since it is a shallow lure.

    Good luck!

  7. Live Bait has a slightly better catch rate But both work I always use artificial cause its more fun in my opinion

  8. Bass are a very aggressive fish. they will bite on both. it has been my experience that bigger bass will attack artificial baits when they are pulled through their territory. if you are fishing for bass only i suggest artificial.

  9. Live bait is best (shiners, night crawlers, crayfish, frogs) but it can be expensive and sometimes not available. That is when artificial lures are invaluable - plus if you are fishing in some remote area - it can be really hard to carry all your live bait in if you're shore fishing. Bait fishing is also a big hassle too because the bait doesn't work as well when it's dead unless you're fishing for catfish.

Artificial (fake) has a significant edge - color selection, different sizes, lighter and easier to carry...and in the long run less expensive.

Overall though - Live bait is better - it does all the work for you... with lures presentation and color mean the difference between catching your limit or going home skunked!!
