When it comes to booster seats there is a height and weight requirement...?

Which is more important? I don't remember what the weight is, but my son is not heavy enough yet, but definitely tall enough for the booster. Does that mean he can use it, or must he be a certain weight even though he is the correct height, or vise-versa.

The police here have been cracking down like crazy, and a friend of mine was made to remove her car seats and drive home because her child was too tall to be in the car-seat (though the child was still within the recommended weight limit for the seat)!!?

They had her drive home with both her young daughters strapped directly in the car with regular belts. Crazy, eh?

  1. umm...idk.

  2. Booster seats are for older children who have outgrown their forward-facing car safety seats. Children should stay in a booster seat until the adult seat belts fit correctly (usually when a child reaches about 4' 9" in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age).

  3. It sounds fishy about cops making her REMOVE her children from the car seats...because the requirements are for HEIGHT and/or weight-so WHICHEVER fits the seat, the child can use it. I have never heard of police making you NOT use a child seat!

She should be requesting clarification from the chief of police as to what his officers were using for 'rules' since SHE was following the federal guidelines for her seats!

As the child grows, the seats increase also-by WEIGHT and HEIGHT. So a child may be too tall, but underweight-which means an adult seatbelt could harm them in an accident-so they should be in the carseat.

BOOSTER seats-are only to get them up higher so the cross strap doesn't come across their neck and choke them-kids will put the strap BEHIND their back which is a no-no...

so if the child no longer needs to be in a CARSEAT, and they can sit in the normal seat and the strap goes across their shoulder and chest-NOT across the neck-then they don't need the booster.

But I still can't understand anyone telling you NOT to use them if they fall in the category for weight and/or height.
