  1. SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol

Originally based on UDP/IP but now also implemented on TCP/IP is intended to be a way for network devices to communicate with a central management program or system (aka NMS or Network Management System).  So NMS is a generic name for a system or software that manages a network (including devices and/or hosts) and SNMP is one of the protocols used to communicate with these devices and hosts.
