When joining the Peace Corps, how do you know where you will go?

Although you can look up the possible countries to be sent to on the peace corps web site, I cannot find whether or not you get to chose what country you go to. I've heard that you get to chose the region but not the specific country. The official website makes it seem like you have no input, and you get placed purely upon your skills. What's true?

  1. You can say you'd like a region. They make you an offer. It may be in your preferred region, it may not. You accept or decline. Depending on your skill set and the demand, they may make you another offer, or a third. They may not.

If, for instance, you are fluent in Spanish and are an RN, chances are good you'd be offered something related to health in Latin America.

They take one applicant in four. The more flexible you are, the better your chances of getting an invitation.
