Question:

When male cats spray, is it always urine?

My 10 week old kitten emits a very strong odor when he is happy and relaxed (sitting on my lap purring). There is no liquid, but I can't think of any other possibility for this besides spraying. I'm definitely going to set up an appointment to get him neutered as soon as I can, but I'm just wondering what this is and if it's normal. I've never had a male cat before so this is all new to me.

  1. Spraying is very definitely urine, there'd be a fair amount of liquid. It's like they try to wee as high up a wall as they possibly can.

the happy and relaxed odour...what do you feed him?  Some cat foods with lots of fillers cause flatulence in cats which you'd only notice while they're sat near you for a while.  It's not loud, just smelly :)  You may want to talk to your vet about diet, or you can learn to love it as one of his quirks lol.  "Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you? Smelly cat, smelly cat, it's not your fault!"
