When mixing a drink to what does the term "part" refer?

Is it a ratio in the sense: 2 parts vodka, 3 parts oj means 2oz vodka, 3oz oj? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Yes, they are relative volumes.  They do that so it doesn't matter how much you make, it will always be the same mixture.

A part could be any measuring tool as long as it is consistent. Such as the part could be most commonly and ounce, but could be pint, quart, whatever. So for example you would have 2oz vodka, 3oz OJ. It just depends on the quantity of the drink.

You are correct its just a ratio.

So if you have an arbitrary measuring device of any kind you would fill it up twice with the vodka and then three times with the oj to make that drink

It means whatever sized glass (or pitcher) you are mixing you 3 measures of oj for every 2 measures of vodka.  For example, if I was mixing a pitcher of this drink, I would put 150 ml of vodka in, then 225 ml of OJ.

That's exactly what it means.  in most drinks it's pretty equal "parts". If you watch the food network channel during the day when it's just cooking shows, you'll learn a lot of cool lingo that comes in handy with things like this.  that's how i learned what part mean when mixing.  plus a lot of partying when i was like 19 lol.  but yeah.  you're right

yea you have it right. its so that you can either make alot or a little. you can do like 2 cups vodka, 3 cups OJ...or like 1 oz vodka, 1.5 oz OJ

Yes, you got it. eg: 1 part water to 1 part juice concentrate is like 1 cup water to 1 cup juice concentrate.

Yes that is the idea.  They use the term 'part' in case you are mixing multiple drinks.  So if you were mixing for a group, it might be 2 cups vodka, three cups OJ... but wow that would be strong, ha ha.  But if mixing for one, an ounce is a good way of thinking.  Or you can use a jigger.
