  1. io - that's NOT very nice ... I can list many things which are definitely uncivilised in Greece. But I won't - the asker will find out soon enough.

In Greece pay with cash whenever possible (still places that don't accept credit cards etc)

Know to get something done be prepared to hand over a little envelope of bribe money.

Always get copies (many) of any official documents you have from UK or any that you obtain here.

    Learn Greek

Remember nothing is easy in Greece - getting anything done here is an ongoing battle of wills.

Know that the hospitals are disgusting but the doctors are excellent - so don't be put off by hospitals

Know that it's difficult to find a job and it's hard to fit in.

Know that should you find a job the pay will most likely be very low but the quality of life a h**l of a lot better than UK

Don't be surprised that consumer goods are more expensive here - especially clothes/ food / electrical items etc

Be prepared for short cold winters - chose a place to live where you control the heating NOT centrally controlled and long HOT summers with a blast of spring in between.

Get used to being stared at and people asking direct questions like 'what do you earn - how much did something cost?' shocking at first but you'll soon be staring and asking!

Know that Greeks keep different hours to UK - later shop hours - closing in the afternoons in certain places - get used to it.

I'm sure there are loads more things ... but I need to know age/ children/ where in Greece/ etc /....... you see I'm a Brit and I ask questions!

  2. Yeah, Greece was more civilized 2000 years ago than it is today.

  4. in Greece when motorists flash their headlights...it means they are coming on through....in the UK - motorists flash to let others go....very important if you plan on driving here!!

  5. You will need a job and the economy is not so good.
