And why does he drink so much water? I take it away at night time because he makes so much noise when drinking.

  1. Yeah..

There is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking too much water, is there?

  2. Although my area of "expertise" is more in the reptile area, I can offer what I think, as I had rabbits years ago.

I do believe it means he is relaxed. If you watch a rabbit in the wild, and they are out in the open, they have their ears up. They are always on "High alert". All of their senses are keyed up and they are extremely aware of their surroundings, ready to take flight if a percieved threat gets too close. So, as a matter of reason, I think it would be safe to assume that if his ears are back when you are petting him, he's happy and content.

As far as water consumption, I would definately call the pet store where you purchased him, or the vet you have taken him to. They will give you a really good idea of how much he needs daily to stay healthy.

Any animal that is drinking more than necessary could be an indicator of an underlying health issue. One you find out how much (usually its a measurement in ounces based on the pets weight) you can keep track for a day or two. You may realize that although the water bottles are loud and annoying and it seems as if he is drinking a lot, he really is just drinking what would be normal amounts.

If you do find that he is consuming normal amounts, you could try to get a quieter bottle. The pet stores have many different designs and options, as most small mammals such as hamsters, tend to be nocturnal and their nightime habits of running on the wheel and drinking can wake even the heaviest sleepers.

    Good luck!

  3. no , have you ever petted a dog? their ears go down too, its a thing that they feel unde threat or are scared that you are going to hurt them if they leave there ears down after you pet it, its relaxed.oh, dont take the water off him! he will need it during the night, there is nothing wrong with drinking to much water.

    much love, caitlin x

  4. The answer above makes zero sense. Yes, if the ears are down while giving affection, the rabbit is probably relaxed.
