Question:

When my cat shakes his head, water comes out. Why?

I have a very shy cat, but when he does start getting attention, he gets into it, moving my hand around with his paws to where he wants to be scratched. He often wants me to scratch his ears, and while I don't mind doing it for him, when I stop he will usually shake his head. At that point I get hit with water that seems to be coming out of his ears.

Is this really water? Why is it coming out of his ears? Why is there water in there in the first place (ears are not faucets!)? Is this something we can treat, or do I just have to get wet with creepy ear-water whenever my cat wants attention?

  1. Your cat is not a cat, but a cat fish!  :)

OK, on a less facetious note, your cat may have an ear infection, and there is nothing anybody here can do for you, so be smart and take your cat to a vet. It may be serious or minor, the vet is the only person qualified to answer this and even a vet cannot diagnose your cat in absentia.

  2. My cat does the same thing, and I can almost guarantee you it's not ear water, it's drool. They just got worked up and little slobbery. It means they like what's happening!

  3. lol it's not water, it's drool!  Some cats get so stimulated from being scratched or petted they turn into a little drool factory!

  4. My cat does this to.  It is drool from her mouth.  She only does it when she is very excited and happy.

    Consider yourself loved xoxo  :)

  5. my kitty does that too, I'm pretty sure its coming from her nose/mouth area...

  6. its not water. its melted wax. see if it carrys on if it stops its ok

if not go to vets and ask for ear drops

its not serious. had it happen to my cat.
