wake him up to eat or let him sleep? He will sleep about 3 hours. I hate to wake him up and force him to eat when he might not even be hungry. What do you do?

  1. Never wake a sleeping baby. He will wake up when he is hungry.

  2. Yes, wake your baby up to feed him! Your baby is not yet capable of managing his own sleeping/eating schedule. You have to be the enforcer in this area. Don't let your baby go over 3 hours without eating.

  3. During the day, i would wake my babies up after 4 hours and give them a bottle. Of a night, I would let them go 6 hours if they would. Babies easily dehydrate, so they cant go too long without a bottle.

I had someone tell me that I shouldn't allow my 2 week old to sleep 6 hours, but I did, and he was and is very healthy

  4. The important question here is are you breastfeeding?  If not then don't wake him, he will wake when he is hungry.  If so, then you may need to wake him b/c you are still building your supply and it is neccessary to feed baby every 3-4 hours or so in the beginning.  Not to mention you might be getting a little uncomfortable!

  5. You need to wake him.  Its VERY important for him to eat.  If you are bottle feeding I think they say every 3-4 hours and breast feeding every 2-3 hours.  Your doc should have explained this too you already?

Wet rag will help wake him.  Or undressing him.  This will make him mad...but once he starts to eat, he will forget why he was mad.

  6. Let him sleep. . .he will wake when he is hungry and needs to eat.

  7. Let him sleep. He'll wake when's hungry or has a full diaper.

Trust your gut. You know more than you think.

  8. as long as it isn't much longer than that. My daughter went once for 5 hours before waking when she was about that age...only did it the once. I told her pediatrician and he said she shouldnt be sleeping longer than 3 hours at that age.

  9. As long as he was born at a healthy weight then let him sleep!  And while he's doing that, you sleep too!

  10. I would nerve wake my baby up to feed him. He will eat when he is hungry. If you wake him he will want go back to sleep and not eat as much there for not gain the weight he should.

  11. As long as he's gaining weight ok let him sleep and get some rest yourself!

  12. If he wakes up every three hours on his own, then let him sleep.  That is a normal feeding schedule for a newborn.

  13. let him sleep. just use good judgment. i doubt your baby will sleep long enough to starve and cause any problems. if he gets hungry enough,he'll wake up.

  14. When my son was that age.. I did not wake him up. Believe me - if your son is hungry, he will wake up and let you know about it! Sleep is very important. I would suggest waking him up if he has a poopy diaper and things like that, but don't bother that poor sleeping baby to feed him!! =)

  15. Don't wake him up. He'll wake up by himself if he's hungry, unless of course he either a preemie or not gaining weight like he should. If that's the case, best consult you pediatrician.

Congrats on your little angel :)
