When my washer machine is on cold, hot water comes out & sometimes when its on hot, cold comes out?

When my washer machine is on cold, hot water comes out & sometimes when its on hot, cold comes out there is no consistency . My washer before had no problem. I dont know who I should contact and is something wrong with my washer or the way it was hooked up? How can I check, or fix the problem before I call anyone ?

switch your hoses around on the back of the machine(intakes)

make sure cold is to cold and hot is to hot
