Question:

When oil runs out...?

I heard that when oil runs out in addition to the fuel problem it will mean we can't make any plastics of any kind because they're all made from oil, and that this will affect the world just as much if not more so than the petrol problem. Is this true, is any research being done to make organic plastics or something?

  1. At the last Earth Day-fest I went to, all the "plastic" beer cups were made from corn derivatives.  The cups were not only made from a renewable resource, but were also biodegradable (which polystyrene things are not).  But I wouldn't worry about not having plastics.  Humans will be long gone by the time oil runs out.  What you should worry about is the oil companies constantly buying up patents of other more renewable resources like hydrogen fuel.

  2. I think there is reasearch going on about that.  We will have to find an alternative fuel to use when the oil runs out.

    Hope i could help

  3. there is alot of oil left so it won't run out for a looooonggg time billions of barrels in tar sand and oil shale as well as oil in Gulf of Mexico.

  4. The polution caused by gas, oil are going to kill us all just before the oil runs out so don'ty worry about oil.

You can go green if you want to try and save the Earth though  it may not be too late.  Maybe?

  5. That's nothing to worry about. I'm pretty sure by the time the oil runs out, we'll have another way of making plastic. I don't think oil will ever run out though. I'm pretty sure that if they were to find another way of plastic, it would happen before oil runs out, and when they discover how to do that, they'll stop using oil. And then oil will last longer. But to be honest, I don't even think oil will ever run out. Besides it's nothing for you to worry about. Most of us can't do anything about this, so just leave it to the people who research these things. Even if this was a problem, it won't effect your life. Worrying about this will only create stress, so leave it to the people who are already on the job.

  6. To understand that we will never run out of oil is a little difficult . The plants take in CO2 and give us back the O2 and the plant keeps the C to make oil out of it. The plants produce vegetable oil and the earth takes and ages it to form fossil fuel. This is part of earth's cycle just like the water cycle.

  7. Okay smart one. Oil isn't just going to run out within a year. It will take decades of decline til it runs out and by then we would have alternatives like nuclear power and using a different resource in plastic.

  8. They do make plastics out of other things besides oil.

  9. Not a problem. You can make those things out of coal, algae, and a number of other experimental methods. By the time oil gets prohibitively expensive [it'll never actually run out, it just won't be worth getting eventually] we'll have lots of alternatives.
