When on vacation do you eat at chain restaurants or try to find places with local foods?

always small local places, same when not travelling, fresher food that is actually prepared there and not just heated up frozen stuff.

Local foods are half the fun of going to new places.  Why get the same ole c**p you can get at home?  Goodness...so boring!

I would say eat a small local places, if you want eat at the chains there is no point in going on vacation.  try to learn something about the culture of where your at, chain places are the same. the mom and pop places are where the hospitality and local culture can be found

most chain restaurants have the same c**p that you have at home be gutsy try something you have never heard of before you may never know if you like it or not.

The most fun I have on vacation is eating in some of the local restaurants.  Finding a good family owned restaurant is the best.  Be sure that there are large crowds at meal times because that shows that the food is good.  

While on the road, finding a place where there are several truckers (not a truck stop) is an indication of good, inexpensive food.

Local places...its not fun to go somewhere and eat at places that you have at home.

I like the shows on foodnetwork that talk about different  restaurants around the world. They give great ideas.

local places tell a story about the place you are visiting so dont go to any ordinary food chain go somewere with a little history!!!

I try to find something local...something different from my normal, everyday food. If I can't find that, I will go to a popular chain.
