If someone was in a serious car accident and had their dog with them (for instance), what would become of the pet if the owner was taken away via ambulance and unable to communicate? Would the pet be transported to a facility to await their owner or someone to pick them up? Where would the pet be taken to?

  1. Can you post some pics?  You look really smashing.

I have no idea about the pet...where do the ducks go when the pond freezes over?  Who is John Galt.

  2. The police would either call animal control to come get the pet. Take the pet there themselves. A person passing by that might have say the accident and stopped to help might take the pet. Or if someone was called b/c they are related and the pet was there they might take the dog. So many things. Also if the dog had a tag on its collar. They would call to see if anyone was at the house and have someone come get the dog. I hope this helps...

  3. It should be taken to an animal shelter. Of course some officers may take the dog back to the station to see if they can reach a family member first. Others may not. Any good officer would not leave the dog unattended . If the dog was hurt it would be taken to a vet. They would have to put the dog in some kind of protection until you were able to get dog or someone else. Otherwise they could be sued.

  4. It would be meantioned when the cops or paramedics phoned the next of kin, and probably taken to a trusted shelter, or even to the police station if the next of kin is contacted and agrees to pick the animal up.
