When opening swimming pool, how long after adjusting ph do i adjust alkalinity?

  1. i really don't think u have to wait at all because each chemical works individually from all the others. i guess if u needed to i would wait maybe 2 hours to make sure all the ph solvent was dissolved then i would test for alkalinity

Sodium (Bi)carbonate is used to adjust your Alkalinity upwards first because Sodium carbonate increases your pH at the same time.  Some of the Sodium Bicarbonate splits and therefore raises your pH.  You always start with raising your Alkalinity since there is no chemical that just brings down that level by itslef if you are too high compared to the pH which can be lowered with pH decreaser.

  3. Some think the first thing you adjust is the alkalinity.  In reality you do it at the same time you adjust your pH.  The pH is related to the Total Alkalinity as it is the pH's buffer that resists changes in pH.  Acid to adjust the pH will have an effect on your TA.
