Question:

When (or if) I pass my driving test, will my insurance still cover me if it's for a provisional license?

I currently have a provisional license and am a listed driver on my Mum's insurance, so I can drive her car when she's with me. Though when/if I pass my driving test, will this insurance still cover me to drive in my Mum's car? And would I be allowed to drive on my own under the insurance once I've passed?

  1. you would need to update your insurance.

your company will be under the impression that your on a provissional so you cant drive on your  own so IF there was an accident on your own you could find it very difficult to claim asthey will say your not covered to drive the car on your own so they will ask you to send in your licence to proove your are legal to drive just slowing down the process of the claim

so just to make things easier get your mum to give them a call and who knows your mum might get cheeper insurance..!

  2. Bardic is correct - oh and it's WHEN you pass your test not IF!!!!! stay positive!

Take it you are a named driver on your mum's insurance. When you pass your test you MUST tell the insurance company and the policy will almost certainly go UP, as you will be driving alone with no supervision, therefore a much higher risk as far as the insurance company is concerned!

Good luck with your test :)

  3. you have to have your mum in the car unless you have a full licence. but i think when you have a full licence you can have yourslef as a second driver under your mums insurance. this is cheaper

  4. Yes, Mum needs to advise her insurers of your success. It may well, in fact, cost her more as you will no longer be under her supervision but a "new driver" in your own right.

  5. Your mum would need to update the details on her policy to show that you were now a fully licenced driver rather than a provisional licence holder to ensure you were legally covered. As long as this change is made when you pass your test you will be covered under the policy as a named driver to drive your mum's car on your own.

  6. You can only have one insurance policy per car to have more than that could be considered fraud (as you can claim off both insurers for a single accident!). Your mums insurance will still cover you after you pass your test as long as your mum informs them that you have. Once you get your own car you will be able drive on your own insurance not until then!

  7. i believe so

  8. YOu are not the only one,I have ever met the similiar problem before.I have good experience here though.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  9. You should tell the insurance you passed, say on the insurance and bring your own premiums down over time. Yes you may drive unaccompanied with a full licence.
