Question:

When painting a wall black?

im painting one wall in my room black (accent wall)right now it is a pepto bismal pink.... haha will i need to use two coats of black paint or will one cover it fine?

  1. i would go with one first, and then see how that looks and then go with a second one if you need it, and go with a tinted primer


  2. I'm thinking 2 coats but you'll be able to tell the next day if it looks streaky.  when you go back to a light color someday.....try 3-4 coats!

I agree with the above answerers, but also remember that the better quality your paint is, the fewer coats you'll need.  In my humble opinion Pratt & Lambert is the best.  Good luck!  I'm just about to paint my bedroom "Anubis" (gorgeous charcoal colour)... very daring but it'll look beautiful with my decor choices.  Hope yours turns out well too!

  4. Not only will you need two, you should start with a tinted primer, which will make your life easier. Any paint store can tint a primer for you.

  5. i would use 2

    just to be on the safe side

    even though it may look well covered, once the light hits it, it may show patches

    i have used black paint and i always use 2 to give a nice finish
