When painting the back of an aquarium, is any color ok?

obviously i would only intend to paint the outside of the tank, but my question deals with color. in every resource i've found dealing with aquarium painting, the discussion only includes black or blue paint. is there a reason for this besides lack of originality?

would there be any negatives to painting it red or green or day-glo orange? the only thing i can think of is that it might confuse the fish into thinking there's some gigantic colorful fish lurking around to be afraid of. but at the same time, the back of our aquarium is currently uncovered and it's sitting against a wall that's painted brick red with no noticeable problems.

  1. fish show up better with a darker colour background

dont paint the tank because you might scratch the front and you cant just turn it around

what i do is i measure out some metal baking foil and paint that and tape it on

  2. i would think so. i would just not paint it if u were u.

  3. I use marine blue craft paper stuck to the back of the aquarium with blue tac.  It shows up the fish nicely and looks very natural.  I don't like the picture backings as I believe in creating a beautiful aquascape.

  4. I don'tbelieve it'll be a problem but my advise to you is to use a picture which will help them to believe their are in their own environment.

  5. I paint all of mine blue or black because the fish show up against it better.Painting it any color won't be a problem. But if you have bright colored fish against a bright colored background, you might not be able to see them very well. But it is your tank so paint it any color you want! The fish won't care!
