  1. front.

  2. If you use toe straps you don't have a choice- the pressure comes from the front of your foot. As a result of that I sometimes get a feeling of numbness in my foot after cycling long distances. I think using the front of the foot allows you to exert more power by flexing your calf muscles than you could if you were using the back of your foot.

  3. i think you should use the front, therefore, you'll have more flexibility with your ankle and the angles in your foot.

  4. You should use the front of your foot. If you look at cycling shoes you will see that the cleat is under the ball (front portion) of you foot.

  5. When you are pushing the downward force should be on the ball of your foot, in order for maximum pedaling power and maneuverability.

  6. The best way to pedal by far is with the ball of your feet.  Simply because you get more power from each rotation.  If you find it hard to keep your foot on the pedal while doing this you may want to try a toe strap that attaches to your pedal.

For the absolute best position for your feet you will need a cycling shoe with a cleat that clips into a special pedal.  This keeps your foot in constant contact with the pedal for maximum power.
