Also, they should check spelling and grammar before submitting questions. It would make answering their questions alot easier.

  1. In order to get the best help it is a good idea to give a brief overview of your situation, mention the kind of insurance you are asking for (life, auto, home, business, travel, etc), and where you are from.

Frequently the question is:  "what is the best insurance?"  That's not nearly specific enough!

Thanks James for bringing this up.

  2. Come on, James!  You've done insurance for 30 years, you KNOW the answer to this question!

I can't count how many times I've sat with someone, asking question after question to clarify what "general work" means, to get a GL class code.  People don't SPEAK insurance, so it's very, very hard for Joe Public to articulate details when they're stuck in terms of "act of God", "full coverage",  "all risk", and other terms presented to them by agents not interested in being precise!!

When someone with a dump truck comes in asking for "Comprehension Coverage", or a carpenter asks for "Espionage Coverage", you just have to ask more and more questions to find out exactly what they want!

That's the main reason why buying insurance over the internet backfires for so many people - and why agents can still offer value-added services - even if it's mostly just as translators!

I'm with you on the spell check thing, though!  Although my pet peeve is the text message talk - R U wit me?

  3. A lot is two words, not one.
