When people get on the bus, why do they refuse to move toward the back, even when there's lots of room?

    Back = Stairs (you can lose balance)

  3. In New York, that is always problem.

    there's many reason.

    In Nassau County, bus called Long Island Bus owned by Nassau County.

    On N6 which travel along Hempstead Turnpike between Jamaica, Queens and Hempstead Transit Center are very busy and crowded lines. Bus drivers always tell everyone to move back and even the recorded announcement tell everyone to move back. Even there are few spaces, they never listen. It also same reason for NYCT Bus, MTA Bus and Bee-Line bus.

    1. They like to stay near the door, so they could exit easier or transfer easily.

    2. In bus in NYC, there are A/C on, so in rear, it is very cold, so they don't like to be near A/C.

    3. They do not respect each other or bus driver.

    Slightly off-topic, but it not only buses. Subways also.

    Conductors or automated announcement always tell everyone to "Move all the way into car", but they wouldn't listen.

    They keep spaces open, even on crowded trains

  4. I think people who ride the bus , they try to stay close to the driver for protection, and some people think it smells bad on the rear
